Who We Are
Newbean Capital, founded by Nicola Kerslake in 2013, is a registered investment advisor headquartered just outside Lake Tahoe, conveniently close to the Bay Area. In addition, it has a subsidiary in Singapore. The company's interests include software platform development, venture capital, and indoor agriculture. Notably, its prior projects involve managing venture capital funds under US Treasury mandates, advising international governments on indoor agriculture, and developing software platforms used by multinational corporations.
Nicola Kerslake, Newbean's founder, has over 20 years of experience in institutional investments across Europe, Asia, and the US. She is a CFA charterholder and studied politics, philosophy, and economics at Magdalen College, Oxford. To date, Nicola has managed hedge fund portfolios at a Deloitte subsidiary, established private equity and real asset platforms for SEI Investments, and managed venture capital mandates. Additionally, she is a serial entrepreneur in the indoor agriculture space, having achieved a successful exit in late 2018.
Newbean Capital played a crucial role in creating and expanding Battle Born Venture, Nevada’s state venture capital fund, under a US Treasury mandate. Furthermore, the Newbean team collaborated with the State of California on its SSBCI fund and fund of funds program. Elsewhere, they developed Newbean Comply, a software platform that simplifies complex US Treasury reporting requirements.
Nowadays, Contain Inc., a Techstars graduate, handles the company's interests in indoor agriculture. At Techstars' Farm to Fork program, the team worked with companies like Cargill and Ecolab. The team at Newbean Capital includes professionals with experience in development, venture capital, and startups. They bring a wealth of knowledge to the firm's operations.
