The Nevada Governor’s Office of Energy (Office) oversees energy programs required through statute and those that help to meet the mission of the office.
The U.S. Department of Energy has on several occasions recognized the Office for distinguishing itself as one of the leading states in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) implementation. As of May 2012, Nevada was number one in the nation – tied with Indiana – for having allocated 99.8% of ARRA funds for the State Energy Projects program, a program designed to increase energy efficiency, reduce reliance on imported energy and minimize energy production impacts on the environment.
In addition to ensuring ARRA dollars are put to work quickly, the Office has launched the Energy Fit Nevada Campaign, the Statewide Renewable Energy Project, a successful Revolving Loan Program, the Nevada Rooftop Solar Initiative, the commercial building retrofit program, tracking energy consumption of state-owned buildings, absorbed the duties of the Energy Commissioner and Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Authority, and is working to improve legislation and initiatives related to energy efficiency and boosting the state’s renewable energy applications.
The mission of the Governor’s Office of Energy (GOE) is to ensure the wise development of Nevada’s energy resources in harmony with local economic needs and to position Nevada to lead the nation in renewable energy production, energy efficiency, conservation, and the exportation of energy.
GOE implements the laws of the State as defined in Nevada Revised Statutes 701 and 701A; manages energy-related programs; facilitates cooperation between key stakeholders; advises the Governor on energy policy; and collaborates with our local, regional, and federal partners to ensure a reliable and sustainable energy system.
